The artist, Jose Miret Vasallo, was born on March 13,
1947. Jose received the greatest part of his education within his family. His
father a great landscape artist himself discovered his son's great artistic
talent. Jose was trained by his father in drawing and later in painting, while
proceeding with his general and musical education.
In 1959 he took part in the competition "Certamen de Mallorca", alongside the
best artists on the island. His work was acclaimed by the jury and he was
awarded third prize. Jose was only 12 years old at the time. He was truly
considered a child prodigy.
In 1965, at the age of 18, he entered the Escuela de Ballas Artes de Barcelona.
His searching artistic spirit and his temperament soon brought him into the
limelight. At the Academy he had at his disposal models to paint and draw and
enjoyed his teachers praise for his works, however, these mysteriously
disappeared form the school. Deeply shocked, Jose left the academy on November
20, 1966.
On October 20, 1969, Jose moved to Paris, where he painted
urban themes and frequented the company of Montmartre painters. He met Madrazo,
a painter from Spain grandson of the famous Marazo (Prado Museum). His artist
friend introduced him to Parisian society and he took part in joint exhibitions.
His paintings soon aroused interest, and the French dealer Narboni acquired his
works.
In 1970 he traveled back to Spain and married the young and beautiful Antonia
Martorell. Vasallo then stayed permanently in Spain. There he met the German
dealer Hans Neubert, a well-known gallery owner in Germany. At that time he
signed an exclusive contract to paint for Neubert. His work became well known
throughout much of Europe.
In 1973 he had his first solo show in Spain, at the Galleries Augusta in
Barcelona. This was a great success, both in sales and critiques.
Jose has had numerous exhibitions throughout Spain and
Europe, such as Madrid, Barcelona, France, Switzerland, Great Britain, Colombia,
Canada and Germany. These were conducted by both galleries and Private
Collections.
